Manchan describes his impression of Vancouver and the alternative communities living around the town of Nelson in the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia. He describes the local economy based largely on farming organic cannabis.

Manchan talks about some of his favourite places and cultures: the Kazak horsemen of the Gobi Desert in Northwestern China; the matriarchal Naxi and Mosu tribes of Yunnan Province in Southwestern China and the rejuvenated Guanche culture of Tenerife in which the islanders are living in cave houses high in the mountains and practicing the old customs of pole vaulting
